How to Get Involved

Vote: This is a Democracy. Fundamentally, the values of the population determine what our votes will be baited with. The amount a populace values Human Rights will determine whether we vote into power an advocate or an abuser.
Persuade: Use your voice to educate others about human rights issues in the Philippines. Write articles, share information on social media, and engage in discussions that promote human rights awareness.
Talk to your kids: Engage your children in discussions about human rights and the importance of respecting others' freedoms. Teaching them early about empathy, justice, and individual rights helps foster a generation that values and defends human dignity.
Volunteer or Intern: Many Human Rights organizations offer volunteer and internship opportunities. This is a way to gain hands-on experience in human rights advocacy and contribute directly to their efforts.
Participate in Campaigns: Join public campaigns, rallies, and events organized by these groups. They often need support for raising awareness, both online and offline.
Donate: Financial support is crucial for these organizations to continue their work. Donations help fund investigations, legal aid, and public education campaigns.
Report Violations: If you witness or are aware of human rights abuses, report them to organizations like CHR or Karapatan. Your report could be the catalyst for an investigation or intervention.

Report Government Violations

Commission on Human Rights (CHR): This is an independent constitutional office tasked with investigating human rights abuses and promoting human rights education. They provide a channel for reporting violations and advocating for victims.
Amnesty International Philippines: This organization is part of a global movement working to prevent human rights violations and seeking justice for those whose rights have been violated. They engage in campaigns, research, and advocacy.
Karapatan: An alliance of individuals, groups, and organizations working to promote and protect human rights in the Philippines. They often focus on extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and other human rights abuses.
Human Rights Watch: Although an international organization, they have a specific focus on the Philippines, particularly concerning issues like extrajudicial killings and political repression.
Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP): This organization provides assistance to political prisoners, advocates for their release, and documents human rights abuses in the country.

Extrajudicial Killings: Often associated with the government's war on drugs, these killings bypass the legal process and deny the accused their right to due process.
Arbitrary Arrests and Detentions: Individuals, including activists and journalists, are sometimes detained without sufficient legal grounds or charges, violating their right to liberty.
Torture and Inhumane Treatment: Detainees and prisoners are sometimes subjected to physical abuse, degrading conditions, or torture during interrogations.
Suppression of Free Speech and Press Freedom: Journalists, activists, and media outlets face threats, harassment, or violence for exposing government corruption or abuses.
Forced Displacement: Indigenous communities and rural populations are sometimes forcibly displaced due to armed conflicts, development projects, or military operations.
Red-Tagging: Activists and human rights defenders are falsely accused of being linked to communist insurgency groups, leading to harassment, surveillance, or violence.

Document the Incident: Record details, take photos or videos (safely), and gather testimonies. This evidence is crucial for any subsequent investigation.
Report to Authorities and Organizations: File a report with the Commission on Human Rights or other relevant bodies. Ensure that human rights organizations are also informed.
Raise Awareness: Publicize the abuse through social media, blogs, or local media outlets. The more attention an issue receives, the harder it is for it to be ignored.
Legal Action: Seek legal recourse through organizations that provide legal aid for human rights cases. They can help file complaints, represent victims, and push for justice.
Mobilize Support: Organize or join protests, petitions, or other forms of collective action to pressure authorities to address the abuse and prevent future violations.
